Save the Khleslplatz: Citizens defend themselves against planned destruction!

in the heart of Altmannsdorf, a district of Vienna, is bubbling: the Khleslplatz, a historical place with a lot of charm, is criticized due to planned construction projects. The Vienna People's Party and numerous citizens protested on Saturday, March 8, under the motto “Save the Khleslplatz!”. According to the planning spokeswoman for the People's Party, municipal councilor Elisabeth Olischar, the preservation of this cultural heritage is of the utmost importance. It emphasizes that the planned five -story buildings not only increase the height, but also result in serious ecological problems and a deterioration in the micro climate. In addition, an increase in traffic around the square and Hetzendorfer Straße is feared, which could significantly affect the quality of life of the residents. This was supported by

concern for the historical character

The citizens' initiative, which campaigns for the preservation of Khleslplatz, refers to the historical importance of this "village oasis". The place design dates from the 11th century and has retained over the centuries. However, the city plans a “revitalization and moderate densification”, which, according to the critics, could result in a destruction of the village appearance. The Meidlingen People's Party strictly rejects the rededication of the square and demands a clear separation between the building law dedication for the planned high school "on the ice oaks" and the Khleslplatz protection zone to protect the character of the area. Also APA-OTS notes that more than 1000 signatures were collected for a petition of the place within a short time.

While district head Wilfried Zankl from the SPÖ considers a moderate densification as ecologically sensible, residents fear that their quality of life suffers significantly from the construction projects. Critics warn of what felt like a “destruction” of the historical ensemble, which is the Khleslplatz. They argue that the planned construction project operates purely private interests and that the protection zone regulations could be softened. The resistance to urban planning grows and accelerates the mobilization of residents for future protests.
