Government completed Nova: craft businesses save up to 25%!
From July 1, 2025, small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) in Austria benefit from significant financial relief from the abolition of the standard consumption levy (Nova) for craftsman vehicles. This measure, which comes into force after the National Council's decision on June 16, 2025, aims to strengthen Austria and companies to offer financial scope for investments. Minister of Economic Affairs Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer emphasizes that the SME is regarded as the backbone of the economy and that this decision benefits the jobs in particular in all regions. Companies can save up to 25% of the vehicle price, which will be a considerable relief, especially at a time when cost optimization is of essential importance for many companies.
The standard consumption tax that is currently charged for passenger cars (class M1), motorcycles and light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tons (class N1) is a one -time tax that is due for delivery or first registration. In the future, companies for classic vans, panel vans and platform trucks with a row of seats will no longer have to pay Nova. The liberation applies to box and platform truck with two rows of seats, provided the load room or the loading area meets certain requirements. Financial relief could be crucial for many craft businesses that rely on such vehicles.
Details on the Nova change
From July 1, 2025, only a selective number of Nova vehicles are subject. Companies that buy a VW Crafter 35 (panel van) or a Mercedes Sprinter (platform truck) can benefit from significant savings. The purchase price of the VW Crafter is 60,000 euros, which leads to a Nova saving of 20,214.19 euros. In other vehicle models, too, savings will play an important role and help companies invest more in modern work equipment. In order to increase competitiveness, the purchase of small trucks of the N1 class will also enable significant cost savings.
expected effects on the industry
The support of the government for SMEs is a central concern, and the abolition of the Nova is regarded as an elementary step to promote the economy. State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl also emphasizes the importance of this measure for craft businesses. This change not only brings with it a reduction in the acquisition costs, but is also intended to send a signal to companies to expand their investments and thereby create new jobs in the long term.
Overall, the Nova abolition is seen as part of a broad strategy that relieves the middle class and is geared towards sustainable economic development. The positive of the measure is already welcomed by many companies in the industry, which hope for relieving their costs - an advantage that should not be underestimated for the competition and the economic climate in Austria.
