Rainbow in the classroom: Hernals sets signs of diversity!
On June 5, 2025, the rainbow flag was raised at the integrative school afterwards to set a strong sign of diversity and acceptance. This event took place as part of the project Flagincluded from Hosi Vienna and encouraged the importance of inclusion in schools. Vee Lange, the project management of Flagincluded, attached particular importance to the visibility of young queer and children from rainbow families.
The project has become increasingly important in recent years, and more and more educational institutions are participating in it. Hosi Vienna thanked the integrative school and over 200 other schools for their openness and commitment. The goal is to make schools safe for all children and adolescents, which goes beyond the simple custody of the rainbow flag.
Inclusion in the education system
flagincluded not only offers schools free rainbow flags, but also pedagogical accompanying material that is intended to help create an inclusive environment. These measures are intended to reduce discrimination and promote respectful coexistence.
The relevance of an inclusive approach is not only illustrated by such projects, but also by the growing recognition of the variety of gender identities and sexual orientations in society. The word "queer", originally used as a derogatory term, established itself as a self-designation in the 1990s and is used positively by many members of the LGBTQ community. It includes a wide range of identities that are combined under the term lgbtq and stands for" lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual ".
meaning of LGBTQ inclusion in daycare centers
Inclusion does not begin at school, however; It is also of central importance in early childhood formation. Studies show that 28% of the trans* and gender -diverse adolescents already recognize their gender identity in kindergarten age. Therefore, a LGBTQ Inclusive kindergarten is of crucial importance for a fair and diverse society.
The development of LGBTQ kindergartens has increased since the 1990s, and it is estimated that 30% of the daycare centers will offer programs to promote diversity and inclusion by 2025. Statistics show that in many daycare centers queer characters are already represented in 30% of the books, which is a step in the right direction.
In order to create a respectful and inclusive environment, it is necessary that educators: inside will receive special training. At the same time, the cooperation between parents and educational institutions is considered crucial to ensure a harmonious environment. This pays off: 90% of the citizens support the mediation of acceptance towards various ways of life.
Overall, the Flagincluded initiative and the growing number of LGBTQ-inclusive kindergartens show that the path to a really inclusive society is within reach. It is essential to respect the individual identities and create opportunities in which children, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can grow up safely and accepted.
