Red Bull Racing: New driver, new luck? This is how it goes!
The Formula 1 world is in turmoil: Red Bull Racing has made a dramatic change in her driver's contingent. After a disappointing season in which Max Verstappen won his fourth World Cup title, Sergio Pérez was fired as the second driver. The Mexican, who only collected 152 points, could not keep up with Verstappen, who drove 282 points more. "Something between this car and its driving style no longer fitted together," said motorsport consultant Dr. Helmut Marko in the 'Kleine Zeitung'. The New Zealander Liam Lawson takes up its place, which Marko is convinced that he has the mental strength to be able to exist next to Verstappen.
But the new year is waiting for Red Bull: According to Marko, the team has started the right course again after the ups and downs last season, but there is still no potential for a competitive racing car. From March 16, 2025, the new season begins in Melbourne, Australia, where a total of 24 races are planned. The competition becomes more intense because the existing regulations run out and the vehicles will move closer together. "We need a racing car with a wider work window," says Marko, who is optimistic that despite these challenges, Verstappen still has the class to lead the team to success, as with the last spectacular Qatar GP, which he has repeatedly won.
the look into the future
The situation for Red Bull will complicate itself even further in 2026 when the team begins to build the engines themselves. Marko warns that these changes have significant challenges. Despite a year full of turbulence in which the team fought with the difficulties of a car that has never prevailed, the belief in Max Verstappen remains unbroken. "If we put a properly lying car to him, he will continue to be the difference," predicts Marko. The environment around Red Bull Racing remains excited about the upcoming developments and the next steps in the race for the fifth World Cup title in a row for Verstappen.
