Cars overturned on Großglocknerstrasse - driver remains intact!
In the early morning hours of June 4, 2025, there was a spectacular traffic accident on Großglocknerstraße in the municipal area of Iselsberg. A 51-year-old man was traveling from Winklern towards Irschen at around 01.15 a.m. when his vehicle got beyond the right side of the road. The car overturned and finally landed on the roof in an adjacent meadow. Fortunately, the driver was able to free himself from the vehicle and remained unharmed.
An uninvolved road user immediately started the rescue chain. The alarmed emergency services were quickly on site to provide help. Two police patrols from Lienz and Winklern were involved in the operation, as well as several fire departments. The following forces were used:
- Fire Brigade Lienz: Three vehicles, 17 firefighters
- Fire brigade Winklern: Two vehicles, twelve firefighters
- Fire Brigade Iselberg-Stronach: Two vehicles, eleven firefighters
- Emergency services Winklers and Lienz with an emergency doctor
total damage to the vehicle
The vehicle status after the accident was devastating because total damage was determined on the car. Despite the dramatic Situation and the massive damage, the driver was able to leave the accident vehicle unharmed. The rapid use of the rescue workers prevented the worst.
This type of accidents highlighted the importance of traffic safety. According to the Mobility Forum , traffic safety in Germany is controlled by regular accident prevention reports. These reports have been an important instrument for improving safety in road traffic since their introduction in the 1970s.
The aim of these regular reports is to use the findings in order to continuously continue federal political strategies for traffic safety. The latest programs include 2021 to 2030 and show how important preventive measures are to avoid accidents and to ensure the safety of all road users.
Current incidents such as that in Iselsberg should therefore serve as an impetus to pay more attention to traffic safety and, if necessary, to support preventive training courses and information campaigns. An effective traffic safety strategy can not only prevent accidents, but also save lives.
