Pilgrimage of hope: The sacred gates of Rome shine in 2025!
Petersplatz, 00120 Rom, Italien - The holy gates in Rome are now open for the anniversary year 2025! On February 10, 2025, a group of pilgrimage from the German -speaking community of Santa Maria Dell’anima gathered on the freshly designed Piazza Pia and prepared for St. Peter's Square. The group, consisting of eleven people, had the opportunity to take a pilgrim cross with them that represents Christ in a red guise. This is a special opportunity because the holy gates are opened only every 25 years, and it has already become apparent that numerous believers have been walking through these sites since Christmas, as numerous reports. The motto of the Holy Year, "Pilgrim of Hope", emphasizes the symbolic meaning of these doors as access to hope and renewal, as well as vatican news
The way to the holy gate
With questions in the luggage, the group moved to the holy gate on St. Peter's Basilica, while both construction noise and other pilgrims accompanied their route. The special experience of walking through this gate was shared by participant Mila, who found it a touching opportunity. For many, walking through these gates is not only a sign of faith, but also a spiritual renewal that Pope Francis underlined during his Christmas mass by emphasizing that there is hope for everyone. The opening ceremony of the gates began on December 24, 2024, when Francis himself opened the Porta Santa des Petersdoms with three knocks, as in Kathpress described.
The spiritual goal of the Holy Year was pointed out: an invitation to find and pass on hope in various time directions. These openings are flanked by Roman communities, such as Santa Maria Maggiore and Sankt Paul, in front of the walls, with each of these basilics showing their own significant history and symbolism. The year 2025 is not only accompanied by many pilgrims, but also by a variety of church and cultural events, which Rome will make a center of faith and hope until January 6, 2026.
