Parking shortage in the Danube city: Citizens are calling for quick solutions!

The parking lot crisis in the Danube city has accepted alarming proportions! With the introduction of the "Parkpickerl", many residents fight for parking every day - especially in the popular garden settlements, where parking in front of your own houses is suddenly illegal. The Donaustadt People's Party, under the direction of municipal councilor Caroline Hungerländer, urges solutions and calls for the creation of sufficient and legal parking. "People can no longer be punished if they pay for their parking space," explains Hungerländer and warns that over 1700 signatures for a petition for the "parking lot crisis in the Donaustadt" were collected, which were handed over to MA 62 on December 16, 2024, such as OTS reported.

In addition to the demands for more parking spaces, the Donaustadt folk party and the Team HC Strache submitted an application for a citizens' meeting for the parking lot situation near the Lobau settler association. This initiative is intended to ensure that the votes of those affected are heard and specific measures are required to improve the situation. District leader Michaela Löff emphasizes the need for a transparent review of the parking facilities by the city administration. "Right now the city of Vienna, which is now" European Democracy capital "for a year, must finally take citizens' participation seriously," she demands.

frustration among residents

In view of the "Parkpickerl", many Donaustadt residents complain about the increasing difficulties to find a parking space, even though they pay for it. A proposal from the ÖVP Donaustadt concerns the creation of residents' park zones in Kaisermühlen and near important subway stations, which indicates the increasing needs of the residents. In a revised planning of the district preliminary estimate, funds for a parking space and occupancy survey are already planned, as Löff reported. The current circumstances are unsustainable and demand urgent measures!
