Austria's tourism is booming: record numbers and new strategies required!
The popularity of Austria as a travel destination has achieved a new record. According to Statistics Austria, the Austrians chose their own country for vacation from July to September 2024. With impressive 43 %, Austria was preferred by the domestic travelers as a holiday destination. This is almost twice as much as the second -placed Italy with 22 %. Walter Veit, President of the Austrian Hoteling Association (ÖHV), is enthusiastic about this success: "It is a great achievement to assert itself against the strong international competition as a small country," he said, according to a message from APA-OT.
growth opportunities and challenges
Veit emphasizes the high economic importance of tourism for all of Austria. He appeals to the new government to expand this top position in tourism by taking cross -industry and specific measures. This includes promoting innovation and digitization in tourism and protection against fake online reviews. "We could achieve a lot with a clear political foresight," he added, as T.A.I. reported.
However, the industry is also facing major challenges. The company and constantly changing regulations burden companies. Walter Veit, who has recently been elected President, has recognized the fight against the shortage of skilled workers as a central task for the coming years. "We have to bring about a paradigm shift in training," he said, underlining the need for closer cooperation with schools and ministries to develop suitable solutions.
The next few months could be decisive for the industry. Despite the current challenges, Veit sees the first signs of stabilization and hopes that demand will continue to increase. "Black numbers are within reach," says Veit optimistic and admits that the industry still has to deal with considerable losses, not least due to pandemic. In view of these conditions, it remains exciting to see how domestic tourism will develop, while we have to adapt to the challenges of the market, as well as T.A.I. analyzed.
