Austria's Foreign Minister demands determined action for Europe!
Austria's Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger vehemently pleaded for a determined European action in relation to the situation in Ukraine. In an interview with the ORF radio, she called for the creation of a legal framework to use frozen Russian assets not only for the reconstruction of Ukraine, but also to include the assets themselves in the reconstruction process. According to Meinl-Reisinger, the frozen sums amount to several hundred billion euros due to the Ukraine war. She also expressed her concern about Russia's possible attacks on European countries and emphasized the need for a collective European approach to avert such threats. This also emphasizes the fact that Russia is already a hybrid war against Europe, including cyber attacks and disinformation campaigns, as noted in her interview, such as Oe24 reported.
Meinl-Reisinger also dealt with neutrality. She believes that Austria's neutrality is not sufficient to protect the country. Rather, Austria should actively participate in NATO policy and participate in the common security and defense policies in the European Union. It was also announced that she made the previous ambassador in Ukraine, Arad Benkö, her head of cabinet. This testifies to increased focus on international relationships, in times when European unity is increasingly endangered by crises and nationalism.
