Despite crises, Austrians plan summer vacation: Where are you going in 2025?
A current survey shows that around two thirds of the Austrian population aged 16 and over plans to go on vacation in the summer of 2025. These values were determined by the OGM opinion research institute and published as part of the Santander financial barometer. Despite economic uncertainties and increasing costs, about a third of vacationers decide not to save on vacation. Only 17 percent of the respondents have already decided that they will not start a summer vacation.
Among the vacationers, savings can be observed, especially when it comes to the length of stay, the expenses on site and the standard of accommodation. 23 percent plan to reduce their length of stay, while 22 percent intend to save on site. This savings behavior in the age group of 35 to 59-year-olds, who often travel with children, is particularly striking. Younger travelers between the ages of 16 and 34, on the other hand, usually opt for cheaper accommodation or use early booker offers.

Around 60 percent of those surveyed stated that they wanted to spend their summer vacation by the sea. This preferred choice applies in particular to families and travelers under the age of 30. In addition, 25 percent of the travelers each plan to relax at the lake or in the mountains, while 31 percent of urban trips are considered. One third uses savings, while 13 percent rely on support from relatives and take out 3 percent loans.
This is how the average per capita budget for the vacation is based on the [ÖAMTC travel monitor 2025] (https://www.oeastc.at/thema/-reistc-reistc-reiTC- ReiseMonitoring-SommerUrlaub-2025- Reotz-trotz-steigender--cost--34283256) at 1,200 euros.
