Austria demands harder weapons laws: feeling of security in a descent!
After the tragic killing spree in Graz on June 10, in which a 21-year-old nine students and a teacher and himself killed himself, the federal government has announced Austria's access to firearms. This decision goes hand in hand with a sharp increased need for security among the population. A current survey by TQS Research & Consulting shows that around 77 percent of Austrians are for tightening the weapons law. Women and younger respondents from the age group of under 30 year olds support this measure. This reports [Krone] as well as [the press] and [Vol].
In the survey, which was carried out between June 12 and 20, many respondents expressed a significantly worsened feeling of security. So 48 percent stated that they deliberately avoid crowds, a reaction to public uncertainty that has increased in the past few weeks. Almost half of the respondents, specifically 59 percent, are concerned about the safety of their children or grandchildren in schools and educational institutions. It is frightening that only 19 percent of the respondents consider the current regulation on the right of weapons to be sufficient, while only two percent are pleading for loosening.
social effects and concern
The feeling of uncertainty obviously shapes many people in Austria. According to the survey, 22 percent of the respondents feel significant deterioration in their feeling of security. In addition, 44 percent indicate to feel at least a little more insecure. This feeling is particularly pronounced among women, young adults and people who have children in their household.
The rejection of Taylor Swift's concerts last year, which could not take place due to terrorist plans, further increased the uncertainty in society. The public looks at the development with concern, and the number of people who feel threatened in their security has increased. According to the survey, only 30 percent of the respondents report an unchanged feeling of security.
These results throw a light on the need to take political and social measures to improve security. The discussion about the weapons law seems to be a three -dimensional challenge: both with regard to the legislation and the collective feeling of security of the population.
The recent events and the subsequent survey clearly make it clear that the people in Austria want a strict handling of weapons right and are concerned about the well -being of their children and relatives. Safety initiatives in response to the amo shopping in Graz could help to restore confidence in public security.
For further information on this topic, [Krone] refers to the current developments related to the Weapons Act, while [the press] offers additional surcharge data and [VOL] takes a closer look at social resonances.
