Ö1 composer Baticci inspires with Luminal Mirage at the Rostrum!

Ljubljana, Slowenien - On May 16, 2025, the “International Rostrum of Composers” in Ljubljana announced the results of the annual meeting. This is an important event in which 22 broadcasters take part in promoting international exchange of contemporary music. The aim is to choose a "Selected Work" and the award of several "Recommended Works". A total of 42 works of new music were submitted, and the attention was particularly focused on the work of Alessandro Baticci with the title "Luminal Mirage", which was included in the top ten of the "Recommended Works".

The composition "Luminal Mirage" is a common mission of the ensemble Phace and Ö1 for the ORF music protocol. Baticci's work will be premiered in October 2024 and received support from the VGR-Rundfunk and the SKE fund. The winning piece of the competition also came from Gundega Šmite from Latvia with the title "The White Birds", while in the category of composers under the age of 30 "Calmness II" by Darja Kukal Moiseeva won.

The award -winning pieces, including Baticci's "Luminal Mirage", are now sent by the radio stations involved. This creates an impressive network that leads to approximately 600 worldwide radio operations and reaches an audience of millions-from Argentina to Hong Kong. The winners of the event receive the Rostrum Prize in the form of a scholarship, supported by RTP-Radio Television Portugal Antena 2 and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU Music). In addition, the Wiener Musikverlag Universal Edition offers publication opportunities for the online service Scodo.

The "International Rostrum of Composers" is considered the largest media platform for contemporary music worldwide.
