In a tragic incident in the Salzburg district of Flachgau, a serious mountain accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, November 6, 2024. A 70-year-old client of a pension who was on the way back from the Frauenkopf (1303 meters) is fatal.

The pensioner from the Welsland district in Upper Austria slipped on the descent and fell about 100 meters to steep, rock-well-used terrain. According to Robert Wörndl, the head of the St. Gilgen mountain rescue, the accident happened around noon, just a few meters below the summit. The combination of carelessness and the challenging terrain led to this tragic course.

The alarm of the mountain rescue took place at 12:20 p.m. In a quick operational reaction, seven mountain rescuers made their way to the scene of the accident. They received support from the rescue helicopter C6 and the Libelle police helicopter. Despite the presence of a random doctor, all help came too late. The emergency helicopter's emergency doctor could only determine the death of the woman, which was finally recovered by the team of the police helicopter using a diving system. An alpine policeman was also in use.

This incident is not the only tragic accident in the region. The weekend before, two fatal incidents occurred in the Salzburg region and in Upper Austria. A 56-year-old hiker crashed into the Tennengebirge when he fell about 30 meters down due to a stumbling over his hiking sticks. Another incident occurred at Traunkirchen in the Gmunden district, where an experienced hiker named Karl R. fell into a ditch while his wife informed about it on the phone.
