First Repair Café in Kematen: Repair and learn together
in Kematen will be presented on Friday, October 18, a new attempt to save defective everyday objects: The first Repair Café opens its doors in the Martinshof of the parish and community center. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., all interested parties have the opportunity to repair defective devices themselves under professional guidance. The central message is "repair instead of throwing away". Here motivated helpers and inventors come together to help the guests find and fix problems.
The concept of the Repair Café is very simple: Anyone who has broken devices or clothing can bring them with them and repair them on site with experienced handicrafts. The focus is on portable small devices such as iron, coffee machines and similar objects. In addition, some helpers take on smaller sewing work. The café is not only a place for repairs, but also a way to learn craftsmanship or to watch others and collect tips.
a joint project for resource conservation
The meeting in the café is not only limited to repairs; Visitors can exchange experiences with coffee and cake and discuss the common mission: extend the lifespan of devices, protecting resources and minimizing waste. Participation in the Repair Café is free of charge, whereby the spare parts have to be procured by the participants themselves. However, voluntary donations are welcome to secure the future of the project.
"Every device whose lifespan we extend is a real success," emphasizes Helmut Führlinger, one of the organizers of the café. He invites both specialists and hobby hobbyists to bring in their skills. Technically experienced people who enjoy the craft are also called on to actively participate.
The project is also supported by the Linz-Land district waste association, which equips the café with a free tool case and helps with the announcement. The Repair Café has already been linked via international networks-it is registered with the Stichting Repair Café International in the Netherlands, which makes Kematen part of the global repair movement.
This initiative is not isolated, but part of a series of non -profit projects that were launched by the SPÖ Kematen. This includes, among other things, a gift box and a food rescue. "These projects offer more opportunities for citizens of Kematen and the surrounding area, and they could be realized with the help of the community," explains Führlinger, who is working on their development and continuous support.
