"We were looking for new possibilities and the oil pumpkin seemed ideal for us," says Franz Weinzierl.

"A good insect flight to pollination is important for the healthy development of the plants," added.

Another advantage of the oil pumpkin is its robustness to dry phases, which makes it an easy -care culture. The Weinzierls harvest their pumpkins, depending on the weather, between mid -September and mid -October from their approximately six hectares. The harvest time window varies depending on the maturity of the kernels - the more optimally the core is, the better the quality of the harvest.
