Future of mobility: Upper Austria's automotive industry during the way
In Upper Austria, around 31,000 employees work in around 280 companies in the automotive industry. This strong presence represents an important pillar for the regional economy. In view of the current challenges that affect the automotive industry, companies rely on regional collaborations to optimally position themselves for the future.
On Wednesday, the "Future Mobility Region" initiative was presented in the BMW plant in Steyr. Markus Achleitner, the State Economic and Research Council, made it clear: "Our companies and research institutions actively shape tomorrow's mobility." This cooperation between start-ups, established companies and global actors aims to make mobility more environmentally friendly, efficient and intelligent.
challenges and opportunities
The automotive industry is currently facing several challenges: declining sales figures due to the retention of purchase, increasing costs for personnel, energy and raw materials as well as high investments in new technologies burden companies. "The respective concern depends heavily on the specific product or market," said Achleitner. However, the global presence of domestic companies is a key to resilience to meet these global challenges. "The transformation poses great opportunities: The basis of the success of domestic suppliers is specifically created in Upper Austria - regional collaborations create innovation for the world market," continued Achleitner.
The importance of these cooperation is proven by best practice examples from the region. The Greiner Assistec produces transport boxes for sensitive components of the gene6 electric drives for BMW. These special-adapted packaging play a crucial role in the entire production chain of the E-motors of the new class of BMW.
Another example of successful partnerships is the cooperation between the fire brigade equipment center Rosenbauer and Miba Battery Systems. Together they will develop battery solutions for special electrical operating vehicles that are produced in the Miba plant in Bad Leonfelden.
In addition, the LKR light metal competence center in Ranshofen and Fronius work together with more than 20 partners on the further development of the wire -based additive production. This technology is used in various industrial fields, including the automotive industry and aerospace.
The "Future Mobility Region" initiative and the funded cooperation show how the regional industry is actively involved in the design of the mobility of the future. The close cooperation between research and industry not only promises innovations, but also stability in a changing industry.
