Large exercise in Haid: Fire brigades and emergency services at Smurfit Kappa active

In the municipality of Ansfelden, a comprehensive autumn exercise was recently carried out at the company Smurfit Kappa Packaging Austria in Haid. This annual event attracted around 100 emergency services, including firefighters from various surrounding communities and members of the company's own fire protection group. The aim was to give the emergency services the opportunity to train in a realistic company environment and test their reactions on different emergency scenarios.

The exercise lasted about two hours and included several fire brigade associations. Among other things, the fire brigades (FF) from the duty area of Ansfelden, the FF Pucking/Hasenufer and the FF Weissenberg were present. The Red Cross Traun and the Ansfelden police inspection were also part of the exercise. Johannes Heubel, the fire protection officer of Smurfit Kappa Packaging Austria, took over the organization of the entire process.

scenario for practicing

The participants were faced with a challenging scenario in the exercise. It was important to save two injured people from a heavily smoky 100 meter long underfloor canal. In addition, another injured person, who was in trouble due to a soda hydration, had to be freed from the vicinity of a burning sodium eye tank. The wearing of special protective clothing was required for these operations and a decontamination zone was set up to ensure the safety of the emergency services.

An important part of the exercise was to ensure sufficient extinguishing water supply. For this purpose, a 100 meter long fire water pipe was laid from the Krems to the stove of the fire. The Red Cross Traun played a central role in the initial care of the "injured" people to ensure that the injured could be treated quickly and professionally.

In the meantime, all people in the company building had to be evacuated to avoid further dangers. With the support of the Ansfelden police inspection, a missing person was also found and brought to the collection point, which gave the emergency services a further successful operational decision.

guests of honor as exercise observer

The exercise was observed by numerous guests and representatives. Among the guests of honor were the VP member of the state parliament Wolfgang Stanek, the FP Mayor Christian Partoll, as well as the management of AST Sicherheitdienst and the commander of FF Nettingsdorf, Roland Auer, in representation of the section fire inspector. This presence underlines the importance of cooperation between the various organizations and the communities in preparation for emergencies.

A deeper analysis of the exercise and its goals is also discussed in upcoming reports, whereby the importance of such exercises for the safety and efficiency of the operational organizations is emphasized. More information about the event can be found in the article on www.tips.at read.
