Parking shortage in Horn: Residents demand solutions for the crisis
The parking situation in Horn is becoming increasingly critical. Commuters from surrounding cities such as Zwettl, Hollabrunn and Krems have chosen the residential areas as a storage space for their vehicles, which causes problems with finding parking space for residents. Stephan Schneider, NEOS team leader in Horn, emphasizes that the overcrowded residential streets show a clear need for action.
"It is unbearable that the residential streets are full of commuter cars. The residents need space to park their own vehicles," says Schneider. He strongly demands that you finally set up a park & ride zone and to clearly confess to the free parking for the Horners. The printing situation has already led to an unexpected reaction from the community that plans to create new parking spaces on a meadow.
lack of parking in the residential area
A visit to the Piaristensteg area and "In the Nature Park" illustrated the extent of the problem: vehicles parked everywhere that do not come from Horn. "We only learn through surveying work that parking spaces should be created there," says Paola Rieder. You and other residents are concerned, especially in a child -friendly environment. Schulgasse shows similarly alarming conditions, which summarizes a resident with the words "We are the parking lot of the whole city".
Instead of simply using meadow surface, Schneider speculates about better solutions. Other approaches, such as the increased application of city traffic bus lines, could make sense to reduce the pressure on the residential areas. "We should learn from the experience in Zwettl and Krems and discuss various solutions," he adds. The idea of the neighboring zone could also bring a real improvement.
The position of the mayor
Mayor Wolfgang Lentschig comments on the demands on the parking situation and makes it clear that the topic is known. "The commitment to the free parking in Horn already applies. It is undisputed that traffic has increased in the past ten years," he says. Nevertheless, he criticizes the opposition and its suggestions without bringing any practical ideas. "I am open to dialogues with those who have clear suggestions," emphasizes Lentschig.
In the discussion about parking spaces, it becomes clear that the city of Horn is faced with a challenge that must be tackled quickly. The solution will be decisive to meet the needs of residents and commuters.
