Emergency landing of a glider pilot in Bad Dürkheim only requires minor injuries
On Friday, November 22, 2024, a 57-year-old glider pilot in Bad Dürkheim got into a delicate situation when he had to carry out an emergency landing due to sudden swings. The pilot originally started in Lachen-Speyerdorf and had to return to this point. However, when he flew over Bad Dürkheim, the weather conditions deteriorated and a landing in the local airfield was impossible.
In an unexpected turn, the situation became critical when the glider pilot was grasped by a violent wind gust during the approach to the alpine pastures. This strong gust pushed the plane down, which forced the experienced pilot to act at lightning speed. He decided to leave the glider pilot on a nearby horse coupling in Bruchstrasse.
Details about the emergency landing
The emergency landing was miraculless - while the pilot only born away a small scratch on the face, the plane was seriously affected. Unfortunately, the incident also caused damage to the area: several trees and a feed box on the paddock were damaged. Luckily that at the time of landing there were no animals on the paddock, which could have caused an even worse situation.
The property damage has so far been unclear, but due to the strong wind gust and the subsequent emergency landing, both humans and animals got away with a horror. The incident once again illustrates how quickly the weather conditions can change in flying and how important it is to be prepared for such developments.
