The cities of Dornbirn, Hohenems and the market town of Lustenau have joined forces to create an important concept for the landscape development of the Ried. This comprehensive landscape development concept (LEK) was unanimously approved at a recent meeting of the city council. This represents an important step towards the sustainable development of the unique natural area.
The main goal of the LEK is to preserve the natural beauty of the reed while promoting sustainable development. During planning, particular attention is paid to climate protection, biodiversity and the quality of life of the residents. These aspects are of central importance for the further design of the area.
Collaboration for sustainable solutions
Mayor Dieter Egger emphasizes that the cooperation with Dornbirn and Lustenau was crucial in pooling resources and protecting the shared landscape. The concept offers clear guidelines for future planning and ensures that all projects are in line with the future-oriented goals of nature and environmental protection. Local agriculture and the creation of leisure and tourist facilities, which should be harmoniously integrated into the landscape, are also taken into account.
City councilor Gerhard Stoppel adds that the Ried is not only an important natural area, but also an essential part of the region's cultural identity. “With this concept, we are creating the basis for a harmonious coexistence between people and nature, which will also benefit future generations,” he says. This approach underlines how important it is to use natural resources responsibly.
The agreement on a common concept shows how cooperation between communities can have long-term positive effects on the environment.
