Insights into the Wurzacher Ried: Guided tour to nature experience and tower project

On September 26, 2023, the view of the Wurzacher Ried fell when Dr. Siegfried Roth, the head of the nature conservation center, organized a special leadership. Despite the pouring rain, around 50 citizens were interested in the planned project of a natural lives tower in the moist areas that are hardly accessible to the public.

This event was organized by the group speakers of the newly elected municipal council, which was elected in June. The factions of the CDU, free voter association, Mirwurzacher and the Greens had come together to give the citizens the opportunity to find out first-hand about the project of rehearse for the moor, which was awarded a European diploma and to explain the concept of nature experience and observation tower.

special insights into biodiversity areas

During the tour, the participants not only received insights into the importance of the bog, but also the opportunity to take the edges of historical peat stitches. This was a rare privilege that only a few visitors were given. The path led from the peat museum to the former Haidgau peat plant, the desired location of the new tower, which has been an attraction for tourists for years.

During Dr. Roth at the Stuttgart See explained the history of the water that was created after the First World War, his explanations were repeatedly interrupted by critics. Among them were well-known project opponents, such as Herbert Birk and Dr. Ulrich Walz, the co -initiator of a citizens' request. Municipal councilor Klaus Schütt, who took over the moderation, repeatedly had to ask the participants not to address any minor matters, especially since the time was crowded.

Roth made it clear that the planned location was already pre -contaminated due to previous industrial peat subsidies. He also emphasized that the European Commission, which is responsible for the European diploma, expressly support the construction of the tower. The project is a step in the right direction, while wind turbines around the Wurzacher basin are assessed as unfavorable.

critical voices and positive perspectives

Thomas Lötsch, department for building, environment and economy in the district office, praised the efforts of the council factions to enter dialogue transparently with the citizens. However, he expressed concern about hardness and polemics that were noticeable in the discussions. "It is crucial that we all keep an eye on the Wurzacher Ried and the desire for positive development," says Lötsch.

On this occasion, Roth emphasized the advantages of nature experience and observation tower and explained that he supports the nature conservation idea by enabling people to experience nature better without entering sensitive areas. The tower should not be an intensive intervention, but should contribute much more to the visibility and appreciation of the region. The existing infrastructure would be used optimally and the industrial monument would be upgraded.

Ulrich Gröser, an experienced bird customer, expressed concerns that some rare bird species near the planned location could be affected. He had also expressed these worries during a previous citizens' meeting, but while Roth's explanations that evening rose his doubts about the severity of these concerns.

A participant who was initially skeptical was impressed by the unique nature experience that the area has to offer. This showed how important the dialogue between the citizens, the municipal councils and experts is in order to develop a common understanding of the local conditions and challenges.
