Cölbe plans to redesign the central intersection: Citizens are in demand!

Cölbe is in terms of optimism! The intersection Heidestraße, Kirchweg and Alte Dorfstraße has attracted a lot of attention in recent years due to its high frequency. Mayor Dr. Jens Ried has now set himself the goal of comprehensively redesigning this central point in the village. The area that is considered the most lively corner of Cölbe is of great importance for the parishioners and is to be optimized in the next few years.

"This is the most busy intersection in conjunction," explains Ried, and for good reason. Here traffic flows of kindergarten parents cross their children to elementary school crosses and residents who navigate through the streets. There is only a short section between Heidestraße and the church, which is used every day by many. This often leads to confusing traffic situations during the pupils of the students. "Therefore, a fixed delivery and Hol-Zone would be a sensible investment," suggests Ried.

The development process of the "village center"

The planned redesign extends from the Dallesplatz at the intersection to the church. An important aspect is that the municipality of Cölbe wants to actively involve citizens in the development process. Ried emphasizes that he hopes for a broad participation to ensure that the future design meets the needs of the population. His goal is to preserve the historical charm of the center of the village and at the same time to improve the stay on site with a more appealing environment.

"If Cölbe has a village center, it is here and should be designed accordingly," continued Ried. It is important to him that the quality of stay increases significantly. The currently unused premises at the intersection, especially the former bakery, represent a challenge for him, but also offer opportunities: "I hope that the mail will settle there, which could upgrade the place immediately."

Another central element of the redesign plan is the demolition of the old wall that separates the church from Heidestrasse. Ried sees this measure an opportunity to strengthen the connection between the church and the street and at the same time develop ideas for the use of the area. The parish is definitely integrated into this process, because Ried is convinced that the community has a strong interest in preserving the church as a central identification building.

"The church has to be used more than just at the service times," demands Ried. Creative ideas for greening and the use of the entire area are required here, with the local advisory board also bringing in their voice. The entire project is part of the municipal development concept (KEK), which includes a total of 20 measures and can be viewed on the website of the municipality of Cölbe. This concept could upgrade the village center of Cölbe in the long term and increase the quality of life for the citizens.

A living and appealing village center is particularly important in times of change. Here the municipality not only plans structural changes, but also wants to actively integrate the community. This could not only improve the quality of stay, but also create new opportunities for social interactions.
