BUND Ravensburg: Ulfried Miller over 40 years of environmental protection and change

Ulfried Miller has ended its active role in the federal government (Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany) in Ravensburg after over four decades. The committed environmentalist took up his position in the Ravensburg-Weingarten local group in 1984 and has since helped to shape the nature conservation movement in the region. At a time when there was talk of great interest in topics such as forest deaths and water quality, Miller made significant contributions to numerous projects.

"After studying agriculture, I was thrown into the cold water here," Miller recalls his challenges at the beginning. It is particularly important to emphasize his success in the rescue of the Schenkenwald and the renaturation of the shots. This nature reserve and infrastructure projects were significantly influenced by the tireless use of the federal government. The apple juice project, which enables more than 100 farmers in the region, are also one of the remarkable achievements of Millers.

versatile projects and successes

An impressive testimony of his work is the green area next to the cat lieselet tower, which was created after the demolition of a prison in the 1980s. This area, which was originally intended as a location for a hotel, was transformed into a popular meeting place for families thanks to a signature campaign by the federal government.

In 2016, Miller also took over the management of the Bund Regional Association Bodensee-Oberschwaben. As a contact for 20 groups, he made a decisive contribution to strengthening nature conservation in the districts of Sigmaringen, Lake Constance and Ravensburg. During his tenure, it was possible to set up a nature conservation center in the old town of Ravensburg, which serves as a point of contact for environmentally conscious citizens.

The future of the BUND

Ulfried Miller now hands over the management to Corinna Tonoli and Maike Hauser, who want to bring fresh impulses into the work of the federal government. The two young women see it as their task to promote volunteering and to inspire young people in particular for nature conservation. Miller leaves an impressive heir and is confident: "Our work shows that civic engagement is worthwhile and is by no means insignificant."

Although the challenges in nature conservation have changed over time, the federal commitment remains of great importance. Because in the coming years there are still numerous projects in which the common effort is required.
