Prohibition for dogs on Lake Pleschinger: year -round penalties in Steyregg
The municipality of Steyregg has decided to introduce a year -round ban on dogs on Lake Pleschinger. This guideline, which was signed on November 14, 2024 by the SPÖ's mouthpiece, Mayor Hintringer, comes into force and prohibits dogs onto the lying areas and the water of the bathing area. So far, the dog ban was limited to the months between April 1 and September 30, so that the four -legged friends were welcome in the cold season. The community surprised this new ban, especially in view of the high fines of up to 7,000 euros that are at risk of violation.
The background of this hardness is closely associated with a new, strict dog owner law, which was adopted in Perg after a tragic incident. In this context, the Lindner animal welfare council, also from the SPÖ, has given a certain focus on regulating dog keeping. This leads to a general concern about dog bans in the region, and it seems that this decision represents a further step towards a dog's attitude.
regulations and effects
The Linz AG, which actually manages Lake Pleschinger, has so far noted any knowledge of this regulation, which raises questions about the legal basis and responsibility. The majority of dog lovers in the region are surprised and criticized the sudden expansion of the regulations, especially since there were no problems with dogs in the off -season in the past. Bathing on Lake Pleschinger is minimal, especially in the winter months, and there is no risk of problems with dogs.
The statistical data on dog bites in Upper Austria are also not very worrying: With around 160 reports reported per year, around 84,000 dogs in the region remains the probability of being bitten by a dog. In the past 37 years, fatal incidents have been extremely rare due to dog bites and often in a further context.
The ban could trigger violent discussions in the population. Critics fear that such rigorous measures could not only harm the dog owners, but also the general animal welfare policy discussion. It remains to be seen how the citizens concerned react to these new regulations and whether there may be resistance or legal steps against these decisions.
