Leondinger weightlifers strive for personal best at EM
In the coming week, an important sporting event for prospective weightlifters begins. The U20 and U23 European Championships in Weightlifting will be held from October 26 to November 3, 2024 in Raszyn Polish. A total of nine athletes from the Austrian weightlifting association (ÖGV) will take part in the competitions, including two promising talents from Leonding: Luca Modrey and Jonas Klinger, both of whom compete for SK Vöest Linz.
For the two athletes, the competition in Poland is another opportunity to distinguish themselves and improve their personal best. Jonas Klinger, only 18 years old, sees his chance after switching from the 73 kg class to the 81 kg class. He strives for a two -chamber power of 285 kg - an ambitious but accessible goal, as he himself says. A place among the top 15 of 24 participants would be a great success for him.

his colleague Luca Modrey, 19 years old, is also motivated and has geared his entire efforts to sport. At the U20 EM, he finally wants to achieve the 300 kg in a duel - a goal that seems more than realistic to him. His grandfather, Manfred Modrey, also a former weightlifter, has already promised him a bonus of 300 euros if he succeeds in manage this weight.
Both athletes take part in a training camp of the national team in the Rum sports center these days, where they work hard on their technology and prepare optimally for the upcoming competition. It is planned to fly from Vienna to Warsaw on October 27 to go to the competition three days later.
The preparations are in full swing. For Klinger, there are impressive success in his previous career, among other things he became an Austrian champion in various youth classes and won international medals at several European championships. Modrey can also look back on a brilliant record, including numerous first places at national championships and a highlighted place at a U20 World Cup.
Both athletes are well prepared for the challenges in Raszyn with their home trainers, Sargis Martirosjan for Klinger and Modrey. The U20 EM not only represents a competition for you, but also a stage to demonstrate your potential and possibly gain first international experiences. Their progress and objectives show that weightlifting in the Leonding region is on the right track.
