First racer car in Upper Austria: VW Passat auctioned for 2,000 euros
in Traun, Upper Austria, the first auction of a so -called "racer car" took place on Wednesday. The buyer invested a proud 2,000 euros in an older VW Passat who came into the focus of demand last summer due to its high speed. A 17-year-old had driven the West Autobahn (A1) with the vehicle and reached almost 200 km/h in a 100 zone. According to the new legal provisions, the car was confiscated and is now the first of its kind that was auctioned in this form.
The VW Passat, which has over 190,000 kilometers on the speedometer, is in a strongly stressed condition. According to the auction house, the vehicle has numerous defects, including an illuminating ESP and engine control light. In addition, foray damage and missing parts are documented and the condition is described as "thoroughly overhaul and repair". A guarantee for transport and operational safety is not taken over.
Financial details of the auction
of the 2,000 euros achieved go to the traffic safety fund to support measures for more safety in road traffic. The remaining 30 percent flow to the district administration Linz-Land. This measure is part of a larger initiative to combat the consequences of frenzy and make public road traffic more secure through hard sanctions.
The case is observed closely because it is a first auction of this kind. The close connection between traffic safety and the exploitation of such vehicles is a new chapter in combating speed violations. Interested buyers may be aware of the responsibility and risks associated with the acquisition of such a vehicle.
