New tourism network: Vitalwelt merged for more efficiency

A fundamental restructuring of tourism in Upper Austria is due in the district of Grieskirchen. From January 1, 2025, the state government will reduce the number of tourism associations from 19 to seven Destination management organizations (DMO). This realignment is intended to enable greater efficiency and clout in marketing and sales and is part of the long-term national tourism strategy until 2030.

A central element of this reform is the merger of the Vitalwelt Bad Schallerbach holiday region with three other tourism associations: the S’innviertel, the discovered district and the house backwald. These four associations together form the new destination "Vitalwelt-Innviertel-Despenzkiertel-Hausruckwald" and unite a total of 51 tourism communities. In 2023, this group recorded 1.064 million overnight stays, which illustrates the popularity of the region.

fusion of the tourism associations

The places that belong to the vital world include Bad Schallerbach, Gallspach, Gebolttskirchen, Grieskirchen, Haag, Rottenbach and Wallern. The chairpersons of the participating tourism associations emphasize the advantages of this merged structure. Christine Baccili (discovered), Martin Erlinger (S’innviertel), Bernhard Lindner (Hausruckwald) and Manfred Stroissmüller (Vitalwelt) emphasize that the cooperation within the region's adventure spaces should expand the tourist offer for guests. The focus is on health and wellness, nature and movement, city and culture as well as business and MICE.

Another relevant information is that the existing DMOs Linz, Donau Upper Austria and the Wels region remain unchanged. Processes for strategy and organizational development are currently being carried out in the entire region to optimize the structure for the implementation of the 2030 tourism strategy.

advantages of the new structure

The restructuring not only promises an increase in efficiency, but also the bundled use of resources, which can significantly strengthen marketing activities. Another advantage of this cooperation is the possibility of promoting digitization together and targeting development impulses in individual locations. This concept is also intended to secure long -term cross -border cooperation.

State Councilor of Tourism Markus Achleitner explains that the bundling of resources creates slimmer and more efficient structures that ensure higher national and international visibility for the destinations. He emphasizes: "The whole thing is more than the sum of the parts", which underlines the advantages of cooperation.

The strategic orientation and discussion of creating effective and competitive structures was started in autumn 2023 to strengthen Upper Austria's tourism industry in the future. The new structure will make entire regions more attractive in both domestic and international guests.
