Exciting home game: Shark's Gmunden defeat Kapfenberg 5: 4
In the Gmunden ice rink, the first home game of the 2024/2025 season in the Austrian ice hockey league (ÖEL) took place on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The Cam4dent Sharks Gmunden competed against the previous year's champion Kapfenberger SV, which offered a real spectacle for the audience. The grandstand was well filled and the atmosphere was electrifying, while the cheerleaders of the Rams Gmunden presented the players. The spectators were also looking forward to a show game by the Junior Sharks and a puck throw, where there were great prizes. The matchday was supported by the Muki insurance company as a sponsor and the hall now bears the name "Muki Eisarena".

The game started without goals in the first twenty minutes, with strong performance by goalkeeper Luka Gracnar for the Sharks and Oliver Zirngast for the guests. The second third brought more excitement when Albin Schuster scored the first goal in the 26th minute and brought the Sharks in the lead. Only a short time later Bastian Sieber increased to 2-0. Kapfenberg reacted immediately and made the connection to 2-1 through C. Draschkowitz. Johannes Mackner then scored 3-1 for the Gmundner before K. Reinthaler shortened to 3: 2. After two thirds, Gmunden led 3: 2.
In the last phase of the game, the events continued. Kapfenberg outnumbered the equalizer to 3: 3 by P. Graf. But the Sharks could not be kept down: Paul Ornetzeder made the tour of 4: 3 in the 43rd minute. The cheering among the fans was huge when he scored 5: 3 in the 54th minute through a pass from Patrick Gaffal. Kapfenberg put everything on one card and got the goalkeeper to increase the pressure with six players. As a result, the guests still managed to 5: 4, but the Gmundner defended the tight victory to the final siren.
This victory over the previous year's champion is not only an important success in the early season, but also catapults the Sharks to the top position in the table of the Öel ice hockey league Ost with six points from two games. Player of the game was Paul Ornetzeder with two goals.
