Culture variety in Gmunden: Festival weeks under the motto no matter where, baby
The Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden are faced with an exciting refresher in their program for 2025. Christoph Ransmayr has initiated and inspired this creative process by woven his new book publication into the motto of the festival weeks: "No matter where, baby". A colorful repertoire of events promises to show the cultural diversity of the region.
The festival will start on January 15th in the Alfa in Laakirchen. The Formation Philharmonix - The Vienna Berlin Music Club will appear here. Members of the renowned Viennese and Berlin Philharmonic bring an inviting program that extends over various music genres, including classical, jazz and pop. On February 1, the program continues when the Luxembourg Marimba virtuoso Christoph Sietzen appears together with the Wave Quartet and the soprano Erica Eloff in the Bad Ischl drinking hall.
diverse cultural events
Another highlight is Nikolaus Habjan's puppet play, which will be performed in the Alfa on February 6th. In "F. Zawrel-hereditary biological and socially inferior", the tragic life story of a victim of the Nazi regime is retired and leads the audience in dark chapters of Austrian history.
On February 22nd, Maria Happel and Michael Niavarani come together in the Congress & Theater House Bad Ischl to merge elements of high culture with cabaret in their program "The comfort of art". It continues on March 20, when the Janoska Ensemble Vivaldi's masterpiece "The Four Seasons" will reinterpret the newly renovated city theater Gmunden.
April also has special events, including a concert by the St. Florian Singer Byrups on April 4 in the parish church of Gmunden. Another major musical event is the performance of the Johannes Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by the L’Orfeo Baroque Orchestra and the Collegium Vocale Salzburg, on April 6th in the parish church of St. Nikolaus in Bad Ischl. In addition, the jazz pianist David Helbock will perform with the singer Fola Dada in the drinking hall on May 18, which will then be the past cultural capital.
The entire program promises to strengthen the creative community in the region and to enrich the cultural landscape sustainably. The commercial managing director of the Salzkammergut Festwochen Gmunden, Johanna Mitterbauer, emphasizes how art and culture can act as connecting elements, which underlines the spirit of these festival weeks.
