Gmunden: Income gap between women and men alarming

In the district of Gmunden, an alarming income gap between men and women shows that is terrifying. According to the current women's monitor of the Upper Austria Chamber of Labor, the average income of women in dependent employment is around 2,193 euros gross per month, which is almost 40 percent less than the income of their male colleagues. This difference is mainly caused by the high number of women in part -time jobs and insufficient access to childcare facilities.

A closer look at the numbers shows that only 43.4 percent of the female workers in the district have a full -time position. This means that more than half of the women work in Gmunden part -time, which further increases the income differences. In the case of women full -time, a difference in earnings of more than 21 percent in annual comparison is also determined, which underlines the problem of income justice.

income differences in detail

The women's monitor also reveals the median monthly income: workers in the Gmunden district only earn 1,969 euros gross, while female employees reach a monthly gross wage of 2,403 euros. Median means that half of the women more and the other half earn less. This difference is not only annoying, but also shows the need to continue working on equality in the future.

Another important point is the Equal Pay Day, which fell on October 14th in Gmunden this year. This day symbolically stands for the fact that women work "free" compared to men from this date. In a comparison of the federal states, Upper Austria occupies the penultimate place, only Vorarlberg does worse. The income gap between men and women is therefore particularly pronounced.

claims of the Chamber of Labor

The President of the Chamber of Labor, Andreas Stangl, indicates that specific measures are required to close this income gap. "The differences in income can not only be explained by the part -time quota. We are committed to ensuring that women have the same opportunities as men," said Stangl. It is urgently necessary to expand childcare and educational institutions, as well as a fair payment for equivalent work and measures for pension justice. A revaluation factor in the pension contributions could help not transfer the disadvantaged factors in working life to one to one.

The Chamber of Labor calls on politics to take solid steps to guarantee women in the district and all of Upper Austria equivalent opportunities and fair wages. These steps are of the utmost importance to promote equality in professional life and finally close the income scissors. This shows not only the urgency of the topic, but also the need to ensure fair remuneration for everyone.
