An exciting but dangerous adventure ended for a German couple in Gmunden. The two holidaymakers, 26 and 30 years old, went on the Intersport-Kettersteig am Donnerkogel on September 30 in the afternoon, but without taking any necessary equipment such as lamps. Her path began at Lake Gosausen, where you started a hike to get started near the Törleck. They originally planned to hike to the sky ladder and then return to the valley with a little cell phone light.

Their situation was serious, because the missing lamps made it impossible for them to return and reverse them. Immediately after the emergency call, a team of mountain rescue, supported by an alpine police officer, made their way to the scene of the accident in complete darkness. At 9:20 p.m., the rescuers were finally able to reach the couple and it turned out that both were unharmed. The emergency services secured the tourists with climbing ropes and started descending via the via ferrata.

The way back to the valley was a challenge, since the area was steep and slippery, very dangerous due to the inclination and snow. After the mountain rescue had successfully roped the couple over the via ferrata, they transported the holidaymakers to the mountain station of the Donnerkogelbahn. In a special ride, the cable car brought it safely into the valley together with the rescue team.

The events around this rescue mission illustrate the importance of correct equipment for hikes, especially in alpine regions. The same applies to the essential awareness of the hikers across the limits and the conditions of the site. Without proper preparation, such a company can quickly become a critical situation.
