78-year-old from Pinzgau falls from the balcony in Gmunden at night
A tragic incident occurred in Gmunden in the night of November 21, 2024 when a 78-year-old man from Pinzgau fell from a balcony. The man's previous sleep was suddenly interrupted when his nurse noticed that he was no longer in bed. It was around 4:30 a.m. when the 60-year-old woman discovered the worrying situation.
The nurse looked at the balcony and saw the demented man, who was around four one half meter below the terrace. She quickly acted and alerted the rescue workers who had to reach the injured person due to the blocked access to the terrace via a stepper. The fall resulted in serious injuries, which is why the man was brought to the Salzkammergut Clinic Gmunden.
DESENTI, a brain disease in which memory, thinking and behavior are impaired, explains why the person concerned may have been unable to take care of himself. Such incidents are unfortunately not uncommon, since people with dementia have difficulty perceiving their surroundings and their dangers are aware of. The current emergency illustrates the challenges with which nursing staff and relatives are faced with while trying to take care of their loved ones. Further details on this incident are in a report on www.salzburg24.at read.
