Sunny prospects: December brings mild temperatures to Austria!
In Austria, November 2024 experienced an exceptionally sunny course, characterized by several high -pressure areas that caused an above -average number of sunny hours in the first two weeks of the month. However, there was a remarkable exception in Upper Austria: there was dense fog above the lowlands, which made the temperatures cooler. According to meteorologist Maximilian Sterz from Geosphere Austria, November was extremely dry compared to previous years, with a decline in precipitation of up to 70 percent in regions such as the Salzkammergut and the lime. In the northern parts of Upper Austria, the situation was somewhat more balanced, here the precipitation was only 20 percent lower than usual, as ooe.orf.at reported.
The cold temperatures continued, with the warmest day in Bad Goisern being recorded at 15.9 degrees Celsius on November 1st, while it became particularly frosty in Freistadt in mid -November at -5.7 degrees Celsius. However, Sterz announces milder temperatures for the coming December, because December is expected to be shaped by low pressure areas. "That doesn't necessarily have to be snow," explains the meteorologist in his forecast. Surprisingly, December should be accompanied by rainfall, which should not lead to a cold wave and a variety of snowfalls in the first half of December.
The poetry of November
November is not only known for its changeable weather, but also for its inspiring poetry. Dr. Oliver Tearle from Loughborough University emphasizes that the month is often discussed in poems. In one of his works, Thomas Hood describes the emotional emptiness that shapes November: "No shadow, no light, no butterflies, no bees". This sadness is reflected in many Novemberg poets in which nature is often represented as barren and expressionless, which appeals to the emotional situation of many people in this gray season. The works of well-known poets such as Robert Burns and John Clare are part of this collection and represent the melancholic beauty and the deeper meaning of the month, as can be experienced on Interest InGliterature.com
