Mauthausen's story through caricatures: an exciting tour
Rainbach. The Rainbacher caricaturist Rupert Hörbst has taken on a special task: he designed the illustrations for the new book "Mauthausen - The History in G’Schichtln". This work tells the history of the municipality of Mauthausen through the eyes of the night watchman Karl-Heinz Sigl, who has been running through the town since 2013 and shares exciting stories and historical events.
Karl-Heinz Sigl invites the readers to take an extraordinary walk through Mauthausen's history together with the night watchman Heinrich-from the early mammoth hunters to developments in the 19th century. "Under the motto, less is often more 'I would like to encourage readers to discover the versatility of history," explains Sigl.
focus on the diversity of Mauthausen
Rupert Sört emphasizes that the dark history of Mauthausen in connection with the concentration camp is not the focus of the book. Instead, the book of the rich past is devoted to the place. "There is an overview from the first settlements to industrial development, including quarries and the railway bridge," adds Hörst. Ideally, the illustrations in the form of caricatures should stimulate thinking about the topics while they are entertaining at the same time.
The idea for the book came up during an exhibition of Hörbst in Pragstein Castle, where he got into conversation with Sigl. This encounter resulted in the stimulating cooperation, which has now been implemented in a vivid and educational book. An additional interactive element are the QR codes in the book, which invite you to an informative tour of the community.
Interested readers can look forward to gaining one of three copies of the book that are available in a raffle. Further details can be found in the current reporting .
