Freistädter Pétanque stars represent Austria at World Cup in Dijon
In a significant message for Pétanque-Sport in Austria, the Pétanque Sport Association Freistadt can look forward to an outstanding success. At the upcoming World Championships from December 5th to 8th in Dijon, France, three of the four players of the Austrian national team from Freistadt will come. These world championships are held in the Triplette discipline (three against three, an interchangeable player) and promise exciting competitions.
The chosen athletes are not only talented, but also have an impressive balance. This includes Maris Newerkla, who is only 19 years old, but is already considered an Austrian number one and has won numerous state championship titles. Newerkla will also compete for Austria in a single precision competition. Tobias Riepl, an experienced all -rounder of the club, will play at his side. Riepl is known for his international appearances and his commitment to PSV Freistadt. Furthermore, Stefan Kálnoky, a top player of the Viennese sports club, belongs to the team whose constant performance has qualified for the national team.
A lifelong dream becomes reality
A particularly gratifying message for the Freistädter is the nomination of Nikolaus Newerkla, the father of Maris. After several successful seasons and the winning of Austrian championship titles, he also secured a place in the national team. The co -founder of the association reflects: "It is a small lifelong dream to be able to represent Austria together with my son and two friends in the national team." In addition, the team is accompanied by two other free cities: Peter Spielberger, the experienced national coach, and Wolfgang Sabaini as a delegation manager.
The recent challenges with which the players were confronted make the success of PSV Freistadt all the more remarkable. The association lost the boulodrome, which means that the training opportunities in winter are severely restricted. The players are forced to train in the open air or to cover long distances to find suitable training facilities. For example, a national squad training in Lassee, in the Gänserndorf district, Lower Austria, took place.
The pursuit of better training conditions
"In order to stay competitive at an international level, daily training, regardless of the weather conditions, is essential," explains Nikolaus Newerkla. Maris Newerkla also expresses the desire for an indoor training option for the winter months. "We hope that political decision -makers support such solutions, because training breaks are not wearable at this level. Especially in large competitions, such as the World Cup in Dijon, nations with better infrastructure have clear advantages," he emphasizes.
The Austrian Pétanque scene has gained dynamics in recent years and now comprises around 30 clubs that extend across the country, from Rankweil to Neusiedl, from Freistadt to Klagenfurt. Peter Spielberger, coach of the team, expresses his anticipation: "It is a great honor to be able to represent our country in France. This is a special moment for all of us, and we are thrilled to measure ourselves with the best Pétanque players in the world."
