Freistadt shines: Advent market, crib path and festive mood

Freistadt. The city of Freistadt is shining in a festive splendor these days. Numerous events and offers vote for citizens and visitors to the upcoming holidays. There is a lot to discover from an inviting Christkindlmarkt to a magical Adventdorf to a wonderful nativity scene.

On Saturday, November 30th, the popular Christkindlmarkt opens its doors at 10 a.m. in the picturesque castle courtyard. From the official opening at 2 p.m., visitors will be spoiled with numerous lovingly designed works of art and gift ideas from exhibitors. The ambience is cozy and invites you to linger. A special highlight of the day is the children's light train, which begins at 4 p.m. with Nicholas, followed by a performance of Krampusen and Perchten from 5:30 p.m. On Sunday the market is open from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers many musical interludes that get in the mood for Christmas

Adventdorf with a festive atmosphere

For those who are looking for a cozy atmosphere, the Adventdorf on the main square offers its own magic. Here Freistädter celebrates clubs on all four Advent weekends. In the event of atmospheric advent music and cozy warehouses, visitors are invited to fortify yourself with punch, mulled wine, sausages, potato spirals, chestnuts and apple punch. The opening times are on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., but there are exceptions on certain days.

Another highlight is the crib path, which was created in collaboration with the crib friends Mühlviertel and city marketing. Different cribs can be admired in 24 festively decorated shop windows in the old town. A particularly exciting element are the ten cribs in which exotic animals have hidden. Anyone looking for the search and finds all hidden animals has the opportunity to take part in a Christmas competition by throwing their profit card into the mailbox in the town hall. The special crib path folders are available in the town hall, in the tourist office and in numerous shops. The crib path can be visited by January 6th, with a closing date for the profit cards on January 7th.

A special experience for the little visitors is the fairytale lantern walk, which is offered for children from the age of four on Sunday, December 22nd. Selected cribs are visited on this walk, and Christmas stories are told. An exciting quiz with a little surprise is waiting for the children. The meeting point is at 5 p.m. at the town hall and registration is required.
