Flood triady in Mauerkirchen: 15,000 euros for affected families!
In a tragic flood event on September 16, the settlement in Mauerkirchen, Braunau district, was hit by the water masses. Within just 20 minutes, the water rose so quickly that numerous residential buildings, into which many residents had recently moved in, were almost uninhabitable. One affected person described the dramatic situation: "In the kitchen, for example, it just rose so high that everything is now broken." This unforeseen disaster turned the lives of many families upside down.
a fundraising campaign brings over 15,000 euros
To help the victims of the flood, the Red Cross in the Braunau district started a call for donations that mobilized urgently needed support. Thanks to the great solidarity, more than 15,200 euros were collected within a very short time. Herbert Markler, the district manager of the Red Cross, thanked the donors and emphasized that in economically tense times it was by no means a matter of help. The amounts collected are now being distributed proportionally in order to provide the families concerned a noticeable relief, whereby the cooperation with the damage commission of the state of Upper Austria is guaranteed.
After almost three months of reconstruction, the families were finally able to return to their homes. The damage was significant: water had destroyed heating and electrics, and to ensure complete drying, even additional holes had to be drilled into the floors. However, this only represents the first step on the way to normal, which the residents in Mauerkirchen now have to go together, supported by the great willingness to help of the community, such as Tips reported.
