Braunau schools set signs of sustainability and fair fashion
Three schools from Braunau recently received high recognition for their joint initiative. The high school, the HLW and HTL Braunau have been awarded for their extraordinary efforts in the area of sustainable fashion and environmental awareness. The Upper Austrian State Prize for the Environment and Sustainability is a remarkable success for schools, which recently organized the "Fair Wear Night", a project that is intensively committed to fair fashion and sustainability.
In April 2024, the "Fair Wear Night" took place in the Braunau event center, in which the students of the three schools presented their creative and sustainable fashion ideas in front of over 500 guests. The fashion label "Fairytale Fashion" and the Weltladen Braunau contributed fair collections. Highlights of the event included musical and dance performances by students, while HLW spoiled the guests with Nepalese delicacies such as lens-dal, NAAN bread and chai tea. Environmental Councilor Stefan Kaineder was enthusiastic about the performance of the students and honored them with the state prize for their initiative.
an initiative with heart
The "Fair Wear Night" not only pursued the goal of promoting sustainable fashion, but also had a charitable purpose. The profit generated by the event in the amount of 2,300 euros is used to support the "Khan Printing" printing shop damaged by flood in Kathmandu. These means are intended to implement renovation work and the construction of a protective wall and self -sufficiency measures. This school project, which received the support of the Fairtrade city of Braunau and the initiative, impressively illustrates how educational institutions can successfully combine solidarity and environmental awareness.
what is fair fashion?
But what exactly do we mean by fair fashion? Simply put, these are clothing that has been produced under just conditions. This means that both ecological and social standards along the entire production chain are observed. Fair remuneration, secure working conditions and the protection of the environment are essential aspects. In addition, the end products are free of harmful chemicals, which makes fair fashion a sustainable choice. The initiatives of the Braunau schools show how important it is to raise awareness of a responsible handling of fashion and to lead the fight against unjust production conditions.
The award is not only a commitment to sustainability, but also an incentive for the students to continue to work actively for a fair future. The opportunity to influence the world through their own projects is a valuable lesson that the young people took with them.
