Lower Austria's swimming lakes: Top water quality attracts bathers!
Niederösterreich, Österreich - The summer temperatures pull many people to the bathing lakes in Lower Austria. Current reports show that the water quality in the region is demonstrably clean and clear. OE24 reports that a total of 28 bathing spots in Lower Austria are classified as EU-Badgewasser. These are subject to strict international standards and are regularly checked. The first sample took place two weeks before the official start of the bathing season on June 15th, and further investigations follow every 14 days.
The excellent water quality on Lake Lunz should be particularly emphasized. Of the 28 bathing spots tested, 26 were marked with the evaluation "Excellent". Two locations, the Ratzersdorfer See in St. Pölten and the Aubad in Tulln, received the evaluation "good". The water is classified in four categories: "excellent", "good", "sufficient" and "poor". Around 150 water samples are taken annually, and in the event of harmful values, a security protocol takes effect. Health Councilor Eva Prischl emphasizes the high water quality and safety for bathers.

A look at European water quality illustrates that Austria's bathing water is very good compared to other countries. According to the Tagesschau , more than 90 percent of bathing water in Germany have an excellent quality, which lies in the European ranking ahead of Italy and Spain. The European Environment Agency (EEA) certified 90.5 percent of the bathing water examined. In the past year, almost 2,300 waters in Germany were checked for their quality.
The water evaluation is also carried out using proven bacterial concentrations and takes place in the categories "excellent", "good", "sufficient" and "poor". Over 2,000 bathing spots received the evaluation "excellent". Overall, the analysis shows that water quality in Germany is very stable, which is also reflected in the stable number of over 90 percent “excellent” waters in recent years. Germany occupies eighth place in terms of water quality in the EU-wide comparison.

In 2022,almost 86 percent of bathing water fulfilled the EU water quality standards in 2022. However, the values differ considerably depending on the region. On average, coastal waters achieve better quality (88.9 percent "excellent") compared to inland waters (79.3 percent "excellent"). While the water quality standard in Germany is high, Albania has a bad rating with only 16 percent of the waters. A total of around 22,000 waters were examined in 27 EU countries as well as in Albania and Switzerland, and only 1.5 percent of bathing water in the EU have poor water quality, such as the European representation of Germany
The bathers can therefore look forward to high water quality in both Lower Austria and other parts of Europe, which not only protects health, but also ensures a relaxing bathing pleasure.
