New blood donation base in Zwettl: Rescue for the region!

In the pulsating inner city of Zwettl, the Red Cross has opened a new base, which is supposed to revolutionize the way blood is donated. This step comes at a crucial time, because all eyes are aimed at the increasing demands of blood requirements. According to orf.at , the Waldviertel already delivers over 27 percent of the blood donations for Lower Austria, and a third of these donations come directly from the Zwettl district. The decision to set up your own location was not only made because of the high donation rate, but also to coordinate the mobile blood donation actions more efficiently. From now on, the doors of the new base will be open every Monday and Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

important steps to blood supply

The Federal Retting Commander of the Red Cross, Gerry Foitik, emphasizes that the creation of this center also creates 18 new jobs. In addition, the volunteers play a central role in the base by taking care of the care and meals of the blood donors. This initiative will help make the blood donation even more accessible, which is particularly important in order to meet the growing demand. Currently, only 3.59 percent of the population of a donation-efficient age donate blood, which is an alarming value, such as Roteskreuz.at reports.

Demographic change is another challenge, since many experienced blood donors will soon be “retired”. In order to ensure the continuous increase in blood requirements, it is urgently needed to motivate younger people to donate blood in order to maintain medical care, for example for operations or serious illnesses. In regions such as the Waldviertel, numerous motivated donors are waiting to do the important service of the blood donation. The new location not only improves the infrastructure, but also the opportunity to be closer to the donors and thus encourage more people to donate blood.
