Sustainable on the move: E-Carsharing in the Zwettl district on the upper

The concept of e-car sharing has now also reached the Zwettl district and is an environmentally friendly alternative for those who want to do without their own car. In this region, an electric vehicle is available for community use, which opens up new mobility opportunities for citizens.

There are currently a group of 13 users in the Zwettl district who share the electric car. This group consists of eight private individuals and three legal entities, such as companies and associations. "These use the cars according to their needs and can divide the vehicle use among several people," explains Bernhard Thaler, the chairman of the Energy region Zwettl association. The vehicle is simply booked online via a platform, and the car can be unlocked by a special chip card and a smartphone app.

use and booking

we take a look at who actually uses e-car sharing services. Some users do not have their own car or only need a replacement for a second or third-party vehicle in the household. Interestingly, some also take the opportunity to cover longer distances, while the majority cover the simple paths in and around Zwettl. The car has been booked over the past 365 days over a total of 249 days, although it was only used once on most days. However, there were days with three and five bookings.

A total of an impressive 13,948 kilometers have been covered with the e-car sharing vehicle since the beginning of 2023. For 2024, the number of kilometers has already increased to 11,996. This shows that there is growing acceptance compared to this form of mobility.

In addition, e-car sharing is also offered in Schwarzenau. Tre Thayaland GmbH has established a similar model here in cooperation with the market town since 2017. The electric car is stationed at the Thayaau car park and covered over 14,000 kilometers in 2023, which led to a significant saving of fuel and greenhouse gas emissions. In the past two years, the use in Schwarzenau has more than doubled, a clear sign of the increasing interest of the population in this sustainable mobility solution.

financial advantages of car sharing

The vehicles offer a range of around 200 to 250 kilometers and can be used extremely comfortably thanks to digital booking options. Managing Director Renate Brandner-Weiß emphasizes that users can quickly experience savings of over 1,000 euros per year if they take into account their costs for maintenance and insurance of their own vehicle. Car sharing is still a challenge in rural areas, since many know about its availability, but still remains a niche product.

In addition to car sharing in the conventional sense, there is also the possibility to book vehicles for short -term rental inquiries or get advice when it comes to buying new or used electric cars. Trial tons are also offered to make it easier to start e-car sharing. Interested parties can further information on the website www.hayalandgmbh.at
