More security on Waidhofen's streets: new measures against accident risks
In the Waidhofen/Thaya district, traffic safety remains a central concern, especially according to the terrifying figures from 2023, which violates a road dead and 125, including 24. This data that comes from statistics Austria illustrates urgency to take measures to improve the traffic situation. The LB36 and LB5, the main traffic arteries in the district, are considered the most frequented accident hotspots.
Again and again there are accidents on these streets, mainly caused by distractions of all kinds and unadjusted speeds. District Police Commandant Deputy Helmut Witzmann emphasizes that regular traffic controls of the police are crucial for more security on the streets. "In addition to the daily traffic monitoring in the field, monthly priorities take place to identify dangerous situations," he explains.
structural measures to increase security
A particularly important project affects the LB36, where an overtaking lane has recently been set up. These renovations are part of a comprehensive program to improve the cycle paths, which have been significantly expanded in recent years. The expansion should not only benefit the cyclists, but also the motorized road users.
Another critical point in the transport infrastructure is the intersection of the B36 with the Mitterweg, near the hunting pond. In the past times, this position has become an accident hotspot due to the increased frequency of vehicles. The construction of a new roundabout is planned to remedy this. According to road champion Martin Hiemetzberger, the traffic will be managed better at this intersection, which receives a traffic light extension. "The planning has already progressed well, but the construction will no longer be able to be realized this year," said Hiemetzberger.
The challenges of traffic safety also affect the encounters with wild animals, especially in the shorter days. District hunter Albin Haidl mentions that the hunters are actively working on minimizing game accidents. Wild warning reflectors have been installed on numerous streets, which are visible in bright colors. "We fulfill 100 percent of the legally prescribed shooting and strive to reduce game loss in road traffic," he explains.
Haidl gives an important advice for drivers: "In autumn, you should drive particularly carefully in positions with dangers and wild war reflectors, because wildly can often be expected there." These preventive measures are crucial to ensure security in the Waidhofen district and to enable road users to drive safely.
