Ice skating season in Thayapark: starting signal on November 30th!
The ice skating season at EKZ Thayapark is just around the corner! The 750 square meter ice skating rink will open on November 30th, which will make many Waidhofen residents happy. The final formalities were clarified at a local council meeting on November 13th and preparations are now in full swing. The construction of the square is being carried out by the company AST Eis- und Solartechnik GmbH for around 475,000 euros. The municipality of Waidhofen has concluded a cooperation with the EKZ operator Reinhold Frasl, Thayapark Immobilien GmbH and 14 other municipalities in the district in order to secure operations over the next ten years.
An important topic at the meeting was the set tariffs and opening times. The ice skating times are divided into three periods each day: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. During the breaks the ice is prepared for the next round. The maximum number of visitors per three-hour slot is 120 people, making the rink safer to use while avoiding overcrowding. The prices for ice skating are as follows:
Ice skating prices
- Kinder bis 5 Jahre – 2 Euro
- Schülergruppen – 2 Euro/Person
- Bis 14 Jahre – 2,50 Euro
- Bis 18 Jahre – 3,50 Euro
- Erwachsene – 5 Euro
The new concept will be particularly noticeable for the popular ice discos, which will be organized as “Silent Discos” in the future. This avoids noise pollution for residents. This means everyone can celebrate in peace and enjoy winter fun.
At the meeting, City Councilor Gottfried Waldhäusl (FPÖ) also asked an important question about sanitary facilities. In order to provide visitors with adequate comfort in the first season, a toilet will be available in an empty shop. Mayor Josef Ramharter (ÖVP) has also announced that he will draw up a plan for an extension with two separate toilets, which, however, can only take place from the second season. “Time was too short this season,” said Ramharter, “we will keep a close eye on the situation and set up heated containers if necessary.”
Another point discussed at the meeting was advertising at the skating rink. All parties represented on the local council have verbally agreed to avoid political advertising in order to promote a unified image of the ice rink. An electronic access system will also be set up to accurately record and analyze visitor numbers.
