White Christmas in Austria? Forecasts let us shiver!
White Christmas in Austria? Forecasts let us shiver!
The first Sunday in Advent has been broken, but Christmas mood does not really want to pay for many Austrians. One crucial reason for this is the lack of snow that would complete the festive backdrop. According to the "Austrian Storm Center" (UWZ), it is currently not possible to give precise weather forecast for the Christmas Eve, as it is more than three weeks away. However, their analysis shows that the prospects for snow -rich holidays in the nine Austrian state capitals are anything but rosy. For example, there was a white Christmas in Klagenfurt 2021, while Vienna has had to wait for the longed -for snow since 2007 and since 2007. In the graphic of the UWZ it becomes clear that snow -covered Christmas is becoming statistically rarer - a worrying tendency that is primarily due to the climatic changes, such as 5min.at reported.
Schneiger Dream in European capitals
While the chances of snow -rich Christmas in Austria seem low, other European cities have significantly better prospects. A comprehensive analysis of the Haypp Group has shown that the Latvian capital Riga has the highest probability for white Christmas. In impressive 59 percent of cases, the city can look forward to snow on December 25th. Helsinki and Vilnius follow behind Riga, who also regularly benefit from wintry magic. In the ranking, the Estonian capital Tallinn takes fourth place, while Sofia and Oslo take fifth place together. With 346 snowy days in the past decade, Oslo can also show up, which revives the winter dreams of residents and tourists. In contrast, Bern lies with only 18 percent probability for snow on December 25th. Some cities like Rome and Lisbon even have no snow days in December, such as Travelews.ch reported.
