St. Pölten mourns the loss of Rudolf Winkler: a life for the gastronomy

Rudolf Winkler, a well -known face in the St. Pöltner catering scene, died surprisingly at the age of 75. His life was shaped by the passion for gastronomy, which led him through many renowned houses.

Born in a catering family, Winkler completed the hotel school and gained valuable experiences in exquisite restaurants such as the Hotel Sacher and the Imperial in Vienna as well as in renowned houses in Switzerland. In 1975 he took over the parental inn in St. Pölten, where he offered his guests an unmistakable experience.

commitment to gastronomy

Rudolf Winkler was not only the operator of a successful inn, but also a mentor for many young people in the industry. He has trained over 90 apprentices in the course of his career, which underlines his commitment to gastronomy. He was actively in the gastronomy specialist group committee and was committed to the concerns of the industry. He also played an important role in the St. Pölten tourism commission, where he acted as the deputy of the mayor.

Winkler's merits were recognized by numerous awards, including the “Commercial Council” professional title in 2002 and the honorary signs of the city of St. Pölten in 2005.

Mayor Matthias Stadler paid tribute to Winkler with the words: "With Franz Winkler we lose a committed and well -deserved restaurateur who has understood it over many years to lead a traditional inn to the satisfaction of his guests. A house where the personal charm was noticeable and you could enjoy a tasty atmosphere."

This year it was also known that the Gasthaus Winkler will close its doors after 120 years, which reinforces Rudolf Winkler's heir and its importance for local gastronomy.

Winkler leaves a gap that will be difficult to fill. His dedication and charisma will be painfully missed in the St. Pöltner catering scene.
