Pottenbrunn after flooding: Wastewater disposal now secured again
The Pottenbrunn district in St. Pölten has experienced an important restoration of its infrastructure after being affected by extreme flood events in September. Wastewater disposal, which had collapsed through the floods, was restored after 18 days of intensive work. This message was published on Wednesday by the St. Pölten magistrate, who declared the emergency to end.
The situation in Pottenbrunn was worrying in mid -September when the Saubach stepped over the shores and flooded the surrounding area. In addition, a break in a dam on the Traisen contributed to the destruction of the sewage infrastructure. Wastewater disposal was maintained from September 15th to October 3, 2023 by a vacuum system, which finally failed. As a result, the city was forced to offer alternative sanitary solutions, including mobile toilets and shower facilities for the residents.
help for those affected
During the difficult time, the residents were able to fall back on a mutual support network. In the day care center of St. Pölten, an unbureaucratic offer for laundry care was even provided to help those affected. Mayor Matthias Stadler from the SPÖ emphasized the efficient coordination of these offers as well as the remarkable coordination in the neighborhood, which was supported by people during the crisis.
The restoration of wastewater disposal in Pottenbrunn marks an important step towards normality for the residents. Now that the emergency was officially canceled, the residents can gradually return to their daily routines, but the memory of the devastating events remains in fresh memory.
