The new pastor Leszek Salega takes over the management in Maria Laach
After almost a decade in the parish of Maria Laach, Leszek Salega takes responsibility for the community, while his predecessor, Pastor Christian Poschenrieder, leaves his position at the request of the diocese. This change comes into force on October 1, 2024 and marks a significant change in the leadership of the pilgrimage parish.
Leszek Salega, the previous pastor of the municipalities of Hollenstein/Ybbs and St. Georgen/Reith, brings a long and versatile experience into the new role. Born in Procław, he studied in 1966, studied at the papal theological faculty in his hometown from 1985 to 1991 and received his consecration there. He started his work as a chaplain in Poland before he came to the St. Pölten diocese in 2002. From 2002 to 2007 he looked after a wide variety of communities in Lower Austria before taking over the management of the parishes Hollenstein on the Ybbs and Sankt Georgen am Reith.
The future of the parish association
Pastor Poschenrieder will in future take over the management of the parishes of Waidhofen an der Ybbs, Konradsheim, St. Leonhard am Walde and Böhlerwerk, which together form a new parish association. This was done at the request of General Vicar Christoph Weiss, who considered the combination of these parishes to be necessary to optimize the resources and pastoral care of the communities.
The decision to use Leszek Salega as the new pastor of Maria Laach is followed by increasing the requirements for the parish management in the region, since it is becoming increasingly important to lead the communities efficiently and continue to promote a strong spiritual community.
Salega is described as someone who has achieved the trust and appreciation of the community through his previous commitments. These properties are crucial to make the transition for the believers in Maria Laach as smoothly as possible. The new responsibilities and challenges that are accompanied by this offer him the opportunity to put his ideas and visions into practice.
The parish looks excitedly at the changes that a new perspective and fresh wind can bring into the already living community. After his arrival in 2002, Salega contributed a lot to the further development of the municipalities, and now he is expected to continue the tradition of the parish of Maria Laach while taking new ground.
