Art or provocation? God’s entertainment polarizes at the Tangente Festival
An unconventional work of art caused excitement on the town hall square in St. Pölten when the performance group God’s Entertainment set up a meter -high pool as part of the tangent festival and had a flag. With a tractor, they had brought their installation to the city, which was intended as part of a larger democracy topic.
One of the main actors, Antauer, was extremely negative about the action: "Our flag and thus our country to connect with faeces and a blocked toilet has nothing to do with art." He described this as the "Sauerie of the Left", and the FPÖ city council even planned to show the "horror" as "degradation of a state symbol" and spoke of a "grip into the toilet".
criticism from the People's Party
The St. Pöltner People's Party also criticized the installation and described the flag stand as "outsourced and split". In an official announcement, they expressed that it was not artistically or politically talented to use taxpayers in order to disparage the symbols of the state. It is only an amplification of the divisions that the country does not need.
The GOD’s entertainment team, on the other hand, pursues the goal of making social polarizations visible with their work. According to the festival managers, Austria becomes a “patient” through the performance that is treated with his audience. The artists take a critical look at the state of society, at the same time they invite you to participate and deal.
For the opening of the installation, 25 people sang without a Austrian passport to address the current Situation. In the middle of this performance, sarcastic elements such as the disposal of voting advertising and quoting speeches were used. The art campaign thus shows the diversity and challenges of the country.
summarized the work of art stands for a deep dialogue about the social grievances and is intended to serve as an occasion to think about democracy and actively shape it.
