Classical and more: Master concerts bring diversity to St. Pölten

The master concerts in St. Pölten enjoy a long tradition and are an integral part of the city's cultural events. This season, the concerts shine not only in the usual form in the stage in the courtyard, but also in fascinating places such as the cathedral, the former synagogue and the parish church of Maria Lourdes. This offers visitors a way to look forward to versatile music experiences.

"Our selection of different venues reflects the variety of musical performances. This season is particularly important in classical music, combined with elements from soul and jazz," explains the artistic director Robert Lehrbaumer. With a sophisticated program, the listeners are to be invited to a musical journey that includes both known repertoire and newer sounds.

highlights of the season

The start of the new season will start on the Wednesday, November 20, 2024 . That evening, Robert Lehrbaumer will set personal accents by playing both on the Metzler organ in the cathedral and on the piano. Works such as George Gershwin's legendary “Rhapsody in Blue”, as well as pieces by Anton Bruckner and Franz Schmidt.

Another highlight is the Christmas concert on Sunday, December 8, 2024 , under the title "Christmas Spirit". The soul singer Cesár Sampson and the opera singer Alexandra Reinprecht are the focus of this event, which takes place in the parish church of Maria Lourdes. They are supported by young artists: the golden note inside. Illuminated and visual effects that give the church a festive atmosphere are to be expected

on Thursday, February 13, 2025 , the former synagogue becomes the stage for the Italian pianist Giovanni Umberto Battel, who will delight with masterpieces by composers such as Claude Debussy, Manuel de Falla and Igor Stravinsky. The variety of performances is also enriched by an amusing literature evening on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 . Here the actors Michael Maertens and Daniel Keberle tell humorous anecdotes from the correspondence between Ephraim Kishon and Friedrich Torberg, supported by Hungarian and Slavic dances by Johannes Brahms and Antonín Dvořák.

The series will continue on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 , when the writer Folke Tegetthoff tells classical fairy tales in the former synagogue. Music from the world of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will accompany the reading, performed by Claudi Arimany and his flute and string quartet. The crowning glory takes place on Friday, May 9th, 2025 , instead of a jazz evening in which Martin Breinschmid and the "Prisoners of Swing" appear, accompanied by the talented double bassist Nicki Parrott.
