Remember for the future: Special exhibition in the Museum Lower Austria

The "House of History" in the Museum Lower Austria in St. Pölten plans an exciting special exhibition entitled "Children of War. Growing up between 1938 and 1955". From April 26, 2025 to September 20, 2026, this will be shown in cooperation with the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for War Consequences Research. Christian Rapp, the scientific director of the house, emphasizes that the exhibition focuses primarily on contemporary witnesses and its personal memorabilia in order to make the living environments of that time tangible. The initiative falls into the year "commemorating the future in Lower Austria" called for the state and is aimed specifically at the younger generation, which only knows about the horrors of the Second World War from stories.

In addition, the "House of History" is looking for objects until April 2025 that are connected to the historical events between 1989 and 2005. This includes, among other things, the case of the Iron Curtain, the Yugoslav wars, the EU accession of Austria in 1995 and the introduction of the euro in 2002. Interested parties are invited to submit their objects who tell personal stories by e-mail to history@museumnoe.at or bring it past the collective days in the museum to have them assessed. According to Museumnoe.at , the objective is to capture and document the emotional connection of people to these concise events.

memories for the future

As part of the collection, the focus is also on the technical changes in the 1990s, which shaped everyday life. The new means of communication and the advent of the Internet changed people's lives in the long term. These developments and the challenges of the time, such as the flood disasters, are part of the narration that is to be transmitted in the museum.

By inclusion of personal objects, the exhibition becomes an emotional review of the past and change. In the future, the collected exhibits are to be presented in the constant collection of the “House of History” in order to promote a lively dialogue between the generations, such as ots.at reported.
